DS undertakes first hunger strike
Gains the attention of government and international media
Not able to sit idly by and watch her country’s new constitution being drawn up without the involvement of women, Doria staged a hunger strike to draw attention to the seriousness of this omission. Other members of the Bint al-Nil Union quickly joined Doria in her strike which became a major national event that continued for 8 days. Finally, Doria and her supporters won the battle with the government. However, her actions during this time took their toll on her physically as well as taking a toll on her relationship with her husband and family.
